My interest in oil painting began as a young child when my parents gave me a Paint-by-number oil set. I found that if I blended certain places it made a better picture. As a teenager I got a set of real oils, and without a reference or instructions, (this was long before the internet) I painted this picture, which now hangs in my daughter's entryway.
During college I took several oil painting classes and then set the paints aside while I raised 6 children. I began getting serious about painting as we came out of Covid. I have taken lessons from very talented artists: Darin Ashby, Andrew Tischler, and Bryan Mark Taylor. I went to New Zealand for a Plein Air Art Tour with Tischler and came back with tons of references and a bit more confidence that I could be a real artist! For three of the past 4 years I have participated in the Freedom Festival Art show at the old court house in Provo. I'm playing around with plein air (painting outside with the bugs and sun), but still prefer studio painting. I'm enjoying meeting so many friendly Utah artists.
